And…I have nothing for you. Haha, I’m gone two weeks and I have nothing to report back to you guys…I’m such a bad blogger! Ok, maybe I have a few things, but I feel like nothing of excitement has happened for me to report.
The past two weeks have been a doozy in some ways though. I have been having a horrible time sleeping lately. I go to bed at around 10, but I wake up at some point during the night for at least an hour or two, then fall back asleep and am totally wiped for the rest of the day. Add to that I had a horrible allergic reaction to a new fabric softener that put me out of commission of doing well, anything really for over a week, and you can see how there is nothing much for me to report. I haven’t been the happiest of campers if you know what I mean.
But, there are a few fun things to talk about! I made a surprise visit home to see Whit last weekend! He got back from Thailand and I hadn’t seen him in three weeks, with the plan of having to wait another two, so I sucked up the 5+ hour drive South to see him! What a great weekend it was!
I used the weekend to recoup from some stress and exhaustion, along with helping Whit adjust back from the time change. The time difference between Thailand and here is about 14 hours and what they say is totally true: East is Beast, West is Best! We went out to dinner one night, made a great dinner on another, and saw the new Superman movie, which I really enjoyed!
Obviously there have been lots of days out in the field lately. I have gotten some gorgeous pictures out in the Redwoods and will seriously miss this place when I leave in August! The birds have been abundant and rambunctious as usual!
I have also been going on a few hikes too! One trail is literally outside my back door, while the other one is located next to Castle Rock State park! Seriously, so many places to go hiking around here!
I’ve been traveling around town trying out some new food places! My boss told me about a great vegan/health food place in Capitola called Dharma and I couldn’t wait to try it! I decided to go with the Szechuan Tofu!
The portion was HUGE and got me through two other meals at home! The price was a little on the high side but when I think about how it fed me over several days I didn’t feel so bad about it! My coworkers got another Thai type dish and a falafel plate and they enjoyed their food too! I will definitely be heading back here again for another meal.
We also hit up one of Santa Cruz’s hidden gems, The Pacific Cookie Company! They have a warehouse location where they sell their extra or “not up to par” cookies to the public for a discounted price! How could I say no!
They have some of the bigger ones that go for a $1.50 a piece, then some others at $1.00 a piece, or the smaller ones at 5/$1.00! I ended up choosing the ginger, lemon, oatmeal, peanut butter and peanut butter chocolate chip. And what a coincidence that it was national peanut butter cookie day the day we went too! HEHE!
I had an old moment the other week when I got a notice via Facebook that my 10 year high school reunion is this year! GAH! I swear it hasn’t been ten years… or has it? But it also reminded me that I have been a vegetarian/vegan for ten years now too! How crazy is that! I can’t believe I’ve gone that long without eating any meat! Anyhow, in response to this reunion notification and the typical jitters that come with seeing people you haven’t seen in ten years…I got something to keep me motivated to stay healthy and strong until then! Well, and for a trip to Hawaii that might happen this fall.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for now…4th of July weekend is going to be fun since Whit, my brother and his girlfriend will be coming up! I can’t wait for all of us to hang out and see the sights around here!
Stay cool everyone! The heat wave this weekend is going to be killer in the South West!! WOOOOHHHHOOOOOO!!!
