First of all, thank you all soooooooooo much for all the wonderful and encouraging comments from my last post! I don’t k ow what I’d do without you and your encouragement!
It is ridiculous that I forgot it was my birthday for several hours yesterday? Haha, yeah, that’s how much I care about turning a year older! Thank goodness I had friends around to remind me!
(When we went to Ollantaytambo ruins last week)
We started off the day very early, 4.00am to be exact! We had the intention of meeting a friend at a nature reserve just outside of town called Huacarpay, where I went when I first got to Peru a few months ago, but somehow we missed him and it ended up being just the three of us.
That’s ok though, we ended up seeing lots of birds! We walked around a huge part of the lake to two platforms and a ruin site to find 28 different species, 10 of which were new for me! Yay for great birders friends!
It was certainly a long morning, so we brought snacks to keep us energized:
Could we get any more American? Pb and crackers?? Haha, we got flack for this, let me tell you!
Anyhow, lots of walking and ruins later and we finally decided to make our way back to one of the towns to catch a bus back to town for a much needed real meal!
I didn’t get much more than an egg sandwich because it was the only vegetarian thing at the cafe, but I was more excited about the desserts we were going to share! Yay for birthday treats!
I had a bite of each, liked the cake the best, and ate about half of it before feeling like the sugar was going to kill me and letting my friends have the rest. Sharing the dessert love of course!
We headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest after our early morning and I had a sweet snack before my made up insanity workout that took about 40 min long.
These kiwis were super sweet and delicious! I can’t wait to get more! Before I knew it it was time to head out to dinner and drinks for some celebrating!
We went to a place called Jack’s Cafe, a “gringo” eatery just up the hill from where we are staying. I ended up getting the hummus veggie sandwich which was great, and two cusquena beers to wash it all down. We shared dessert again with some carrot cake and the first real brownie we’ve been able to find in Peru! It was, delicious!
We headed out to a bar afterwards to get some more cusquena, but this time the dark one, which in my opinion is much better, but who am I to say, the girl who drinks about every 6 months! We shared three large ones between the three of us, and let’s just say I was feeling it by the end of the night!
Certainly a good 27th birthday!
