Oh man, Japanese food overload this weekend!  Ok, not too much for me, but for everyone else that I was hanging out with this weekend! I finally got the chance to go home and lo and behold, Hanamatsuri was going on, which is a festival to celebrate Buddha’s birthday!

We were a big part of it this year since my Dad is the president of the Bonsai Club at the Buddhist Church so he was showing off a bunch of his trees, along with some of the other members!

There were a ton of other cultural displays that we were able to visit and although I don’t know what they’re called, I did get some gorgeous pictures!

All of these things are handmade, including the doll in which the fabric is pushed into the doll to create the features of the dress.  The paintings shown are supposed to look like watercolors, but are actually pieces of paper shredded in various ways to depict different types of painting techniques! How neat is that! I really want to learn how to do that!

And of course, what Japanese festival would be complete without some great food!

This is just a small assortment of the food we got.  Not pictured are things like Beef Udon, Won tons, Oden, Squid (forgetting the Japanese name right now) and Spam Musubi!!! Haha!

It was certainly a good weekend to be home; I always love learning more about my Japanese culture!  I hope you all had a great weekend! Anyone else attend a Hanamatsuri or other festival this weekend?! I know lots of people were at Coachella!!! I had to deal with the traffic….yeesh!
