Typical Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I hope you’re week is starting off well!  Lets catch up on a few things and then see what I had to eat today…

First up, photography challenge!

Day 13: Yourself with 13 things

My 13 things include: binoculars, clipboard, datasheets, pencil, antibacterial stuff, gps, cell phone, water, lunch bag, kestrel (for weather stuff), SPOT unit (for if I fall off a cliff, search and rescue can come save me) field guide, and sunscreen.

Day 14: Eyes

Please excuse my unplucked eyebrows…being in the field means I have no one to impress.  Anyhow…if there is one thing I’ve always been proud of it’s my eyes…because there are 4 colors: brown, hazel, green, and blue (a spot, that you can’t really see…)

Day 15: Silhouette

This was the best “silhouette” I could give you…sorry about that.  I didn’t have the environment or photoshop to help me with that one.

Day 16: Long Exposure

I don’t know how to do this one…so, sorry, no picture!

Day 17: Technology

This baby, is my life.  Thank goodness for it!  What, you thought it was my cell phone or laptop?  Nope, I could go without them for weeks!

Day 18: Your Shoes

More like sandals.  I hate wearing shoes.  I do have them though…somewhere…

Yay, I’m finally caught up!  I’m so bad at keeping these kinds of things up!  I swear I will be better this week!

Today was pretty chill, other than being tired (what’s new…) and I actually got a full day of food pictures for you!

This morning I decided to try and eat breakfast after I left the apt (as I usually will eat it before I leave, at say 6am or before) and trust my belly to tell me when it was hungry.  I ended up not needing to eat until almost 830, and luckily I made breakfast super travel friendly so it was easily eaten out in the field: PB, cinnamon and banana sandwich!

Work was work and when lunch rolled around I took in the opportunity to eat my sandwich with the sun and birds…

It’s just a veggie hummus sandwich, heavy on the veggie side.  I had to make it filling somehow!  I also had an apple and some carrot sticks on the side.

I know you all know what apples and carrots look like…but isn’t the background pretty?  That’s really the only reason I take these pictures… show you the pretty environment!

On the way home from work, which right now consists of 45 minutes of highway driving in the desert, I snacked on a Mint Luna Protein Bar to keep me alert…my eyes were actually in pain because I think I’m catching a head cold…which for me, always starts in the eyes.

I went to my counseling appointment to get some very stressful things off my chest.  And just for the few who have been asking about my appointments, I got right now regularly every two weeks for an hour.  I talk about whatever I want but my counselor tries to focus on the things that can trigger my disordered eating like injuries that keep me from running, stress at work or home, emotional eating, etc.  Usually one thing leads to another and I get to talk about all the things I need to.  I always feel better afterwards!

I got home and saw Evan’s Oven Fries in my google reader and knew I had to have some for dinner!  I cut up a few small red potatoes, sprinkled on some sea salt, pepper and paprika and had them with leftover roasted veggies, fresh cherry tomatoes and a chick’n burger for dinner!

It was a great dinner, and as I promised myself about eating dinner, I turned off the TV, radio and computer, sat at the dinner table, and ate my food without distractions.  I’ve started realizing how often I eat my meals working on blog stuff or watching the TV and don’t pay close attention to my meal.  If there is one thing I miss about dinner time is having someone to eat dinner with.  Honey joined me about half way through…

And no, I did not read that pamphlet while I was eating dinner.  I read it afterwards. See, no reading while eating dinner either!

My last snacks of the day: soy ice cream sandwich and an unpictured braeburn apple I picked up from the farm stand on the way home from my counseling meeting this afternoon!

I know, boring as every meal; sorry…but I dont’ have much else to blog about tonight.  I do have some environmental concerns I want to talk about but I’m not sure you want to hear about them…thoughts?

I’d love to hear about your environmental concerns. :) I also am guilty of eating most of my meals at the computer…and I’m trying to be better about that and eat at the table. Although I do tend to read while I’m eating. I almost always eat meals by myself, or with Pav joining me, but he’s not much for conversation so I tend to turn to a book.

Yeah, Honey doesn’t talk back but that look of, “are you gonna eat that?” makes me appreciate the food on my plate. :)

  2. Kara says:

Wow, I can’t believe you wear sandals for your job that involves so much walking! Hard core! :)

  3. Krista says:

That stuffed veggie sandwich looks tasty! Love Honey photos. Cats pics always make me smile. ;)

Oh beautiful SoCal how I miss you so much! Gorgeous scenery shots Melissa, I am so jealous but also happy for you that you get to spend your working days in such lovely surrounds :) Can’t wait to be back hiking in the Santa Monica mountains with my sweetheart! Thanks for making me feel like I am there, even when I’m not :)

    • Melissa says:

Ah, I’m glad you’re enjoying the pictures! I wish I could sent the Santa Monica mountains to you to enjoy again! Just means you have to come back! ;)

  8. I’m totally guilty of doing other things while eating. For me though I find it actually helps me to slow down and enjoy my meal, because otherwise I would just rush through so that I can get to what I need to do. The scenery in the photos are beautiful!

    • Melissa says:

I’m definitely guilty, especially out in the field, of eating super fast because I have other things to do. I’m hoping that sitting at the table will help me slow down too!

  9. Biz says:

Aw, hope you aren’t getting sick! I have a beautiful dining table – and use it only when we have company over – otherwise we eat in the living room, off a coffee table in front of the t.v. It drives me nuts!

    Hugs!

    • Melissa says:

Hehe…when I was a kid we always had to sit at the table, the tv was off, phone was never answered, and all we had was the radio. At first I hated it, but now, I miss it.

And if I had a sweet dining table like that I’d eat at it everyday! Candlelight dinner for one!? Yes ma’am! :D

  10. i actually quite enjoyed seeing your eats today! you had some of my favorites…hello banana PB and cinnamon sandwich! yummy!!! i like to add a little agave or honey sometimes too :-)
i hope you are feeling better girlfriend. im sure that scenery is somewhat theraputic but I know how hard recovery can be. stay strong! im here if you need me. <3

    • Melissa says:

Thanks lady! I’m starting to feel better as my meds are finally starting to kick in. I just hope it stays that way! Keeping positive thoughts to get me through it!
