I’ve gotten quite a few emails lately asking me about the smoothies I make so I thought I’d make a post sharing the various ingredients I use to make it so thick and tasty!
The start of my smoothies always includes a cup or two of fresh spinach and 3/4 a cup of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze that I blend with a serving of protein powder (I use chocolate or vanilla spirutein protein powder), 3T-1/4C of pb flour by TJ’s, or a big spoonful of regular pb. Sometimes when I use the pb flour or glob of pb I do add in a bit of guar gum but not too much or it makes the smoothie kind of…plastic like? Yuck!
This initial blend without frozen stuff helps to create more of a liquid base to blend the smoothie since I don’t have a vitamix or anything and have to use spatulas to wipe the sides while the blender is going!
With that part done, I add in one of the following:
- 1.5 C mixed frozen berries
- 1C frozen mangoes
- 1 frozen banana and 1 C frozen berries
I find that mangoes make for some serious creaminess in many of my smoothies. I think they’re just like bananas in how they make smoothies so thick, but provide a much stronger taste to the overall smoothie.
So, I blend all that together, making sure to mix the frozen stuff with the liquid base in the beginning, and eat it quickly (it’s hot there and melts quick). I typically add in a some sort of cereal or mix of them because I like the crunch of it in the smoothie!
I probably eat at least one a day, if not two sometimes depending on my mood and the weather! Here are a few pictures of the various types:
-Spinach, USVAB, chocolate protein powder, mixed berries and cereal
-Spinach, USVAB, vanilla protein powder, frozen banana, frozen berries, cereal.
-Spinach, USVAB, 1/4C pb flour, 1C frozen mango, 1/2C frozen berries.
I know they probably all look the same but I swear they all taste different! If you have any other questions let me know! I’d be happy to answer them!

just wanted to say i hope you're having a good week
smile!
I like the idea of putting cereal on top to give it some crunch. They all look good!
looks like my dinner
haha love eating smoothies out of a bowl
Mmmm… i think i'm gonna make myself a smoothie now, hehe.
Yum, they are all such pretty colors! I only ever eat smoothies in a bowl and with toppings
Yummmmmmmm I REALLY need to get me a new blender so I can make myself some of these!!!
Have you ever tried adding avocado to your smoothies? Just 1/4 of one adds amazing creaminess. Yum!
And I totally feel your pain about not having a good high speed blender – heck I don't even have a blender right now that works. And of course all I'm craving is a smoothie. It's cruel torture I tell ya!
