Here We Go Again

What an afternoon! I have been hard at work getting things ready to announce about the fundraiser I hope to pursue with the SD Marathon in June!  I’m gearing up to announce all the details sometime next week!  Stay tuned for it! But one question…what do you think is an attainable monetary goal?  When I did a fundraiser like this 4 years ago I raised almost $700 by myself and feel like I can shoot for the stars with your help…so what do you think?  Here’s a little preview…

Anyhow, the rest of the afternoon was productive and got even better when I headed out to the door for my run!  Seeing as how I’m running a pretty hilly 1/2 Marathon with Whit in about, oh, two and a half weeks I figure I should start getting in some more hill runs than the oh…none I’ve been getting in lately.  I mean, it’s not like I don’t ever run hills because I live on a mountain, but some real training. Anyhow, instead of heading down then up like I normally do, I figured I’d challenge myself with the hill leaving South from my house that goes up almost 1,000ft in elevation!  Crazy yes!

I headed out with the intention of running it and taking time if I needed, but even after feeling totally winded (and fighting the wind the 1/2 half of the run) I felt great and ended up hitting negative splits the whole run! Here are my splits for the 5 miles: 10:38, 9:18, 9:09, 8:44, 8:28!  I know I was going downhill during the second half but I also chose to take an uphill ending to get back…and still!  Maybe this vegan diet is paying off…(wink wink)

I walked for about a half mile afterwards but got too cold so I had to come home!  That and I was famished!

Leftover Snobby Joes to the rescue and holy moly were they hotter today!  Sitting overnight makes those lentils soak up that chili powder, and I only added 2 or the 3 tablespoons!  Gah!

Actually, I knew this was gonna be the case since it happened last time, so I was smart and added in some cooked cauliflower and broccoli, along with the last 1/3 of my tempeh block sitting in the fridge.  Pairing it up with the end of my Sourdough Vegetable Bread and I was stuffed!  Whew I’m full to the brim!

Now I’m just waiting for Whit to get here and downloading new music on iTunes (sorry, no Gaga for this chick, I’m annoyed by her music) so our long weekend can begin!!!  Yay!

I'm glad your vegan week is going so well…my old roommate switched to an elimination diet recommended by her homeopath that cuts out gluten, dairy, some fruits, and some other grains and she'll feeling a lot better without those things in her system. Just one word of caution with being vegan…make sure you don't rely too heavily on soy for protein and other nutrients. Soy in fairly large or constant quantities isn't good for our bodies (worse for men though). I have a feeling edamame is excluded from that as it's not processed at all. But just be careful. :)

Yeah for hills!! I've been avoiding hills recently in my runs (too icy is my excuse). Fortunately the half marathon I'm running a week from Sunday is on the seacoast and is FLAT.
