Get ready for a lengthy post…or at least that’s how I’m anticipating it!
What a day today started out as! I was supposed to do an 8 or 9 miler yesterday for my 1/2 Marathon Training but my knee was a bit tight so I waited until today to make sure I wouldn’t get hurt…we wouldn’t want that now would we?
I fueled up with a small snack before hand of half an Arnold’s Thin with some PB and Unsweetened Applesauce. It was just enough to settle in my belly before I headed out the door!
I was out and in the sun and wind by 6.45am and already felt like I was gonna die, or it was going to be a hot one. I mapped out a 9.5 mile course because I like to walk for a bit after my runs and this just incorporates it into the whole thing! The route I took was actually not the one I planned out as I decided to take some back dirt roads to spruce up the scenery and it was actually really nice! I did well until I hit what I am now budding the Dreaded Mile 7, or BONK. Man, I swear it was like hitting a wall. I’ve had this a few times but only DURING RACES and not practice runs. I can blame it on a variety of things if I want to, but truthfully it’s my own fault. I brought no water or GU’s or sort of food to fuel me through this longer run. You’d think I’d learn, but I still haven’t.
Oh the stubborness of being a runner.
I’m actually very fickle about eating/drinking during runs because I really hate to stop and my stomach gets upset very easily. And with the heat, I know my insides would be furious in an instant. Alas, next time I’ll try to map out the run so there’s more places for water and take something to fuel me…and as much as I would like to eliminate all the hills/mountains I have to run, that’s not an option where I am. Unless I go run out in the desert. Um, no thanks.
Final details of the run? 9.15 pace for 8.45 miles…not too bad for how I felt. And because I was so dehydrated (can we say marshmallow hands/fingers!?) I came home and drank so much water I felt sick for a while. Never a good thing.
But you can bet after cleaning up I was ready for some grub! And tasty grub it was!
Who likes my new bowl!? I saw it at Target yesterday and didn’t give it a second thought when I put it in my basket. It was only $2 anyhow…I LOVE BIRDS!
Oh, you wanna know what’s in it?
- PB and Chocolate Spirutein Powder
- 1/2C USVAB
- Frozen Banana
- Handful of Ice
- 1/3C Uncle Sams Cereal
Oh man, I was in love. I added the extra ice because it’s freak’n blazing hot here and the protein powder w/ the xantham gum def helped with the consistency…because it was just like soft serve. It was absolutely divine, and tasted like chocolate and PB too! And the new cereal, UNCLE SAM (which btw I got as a sample from Attune) was delicious! I was excited because it only has 1g of sugar so you can add it to already sweetened things without adding to it! But the greatest part is that this stuff is so natural, containing only a few ingredients: Whole wheat kernels, whole flaxseed, salt, barley malt, niacin, riboflavin (vitamin b 2), thiamin mononitrate (vitamin b 1). And to make it even better, it didn’t get soggy in the smoothie…delish! You’ll be seeing more of this I promise!
I didn’t sleep too well last night so you can bet I passed out on the couch watching TV. But not before having a piece of the Zucchini Banana Bread by Miss Julie! I saw this an instantly had to try it with all the zucchini in season right now! I followed her recipe to a pin except I only used a 1/4C brown sugar and used ginger instead of allspice because I had none.
Anyhow, I smothered a piece with some PB which was divine…
And had some mixed fruit on the side.
And then passed out. But look what I woke up to…my environmentalism is rubbing off on my kitty.
RAWR. I shall kill you now.
I hit up the grocery store for a few things and then tweeted about how I wanted to make my own Homemade Nachos…and needed some ideas! Thank goodness for all the ideas I got because it helped me revamp them to become DELICIOUS!!!
I bought some Organic Corn Chips to use as the base for all the great toppings:
- 1/2C Organic Pinto Beans (rinsed, no salt)
- Diced tomato pieces
- Diced red bell pepper
- Big spoonful of chunky salsa
- Organic Mozzarella Cheese Stick
I baked it for about 5 minutes at 350F just to let everything heat up and the cheese melt.
As messy as it was, I felt like I was a kid again…all messy and licking my fingers. Yes, I licked my fingers. LOL.
Followed by some Organic Grapes. So juicy!
And to show you how I knew this kitty should be my kitty…she sleeps underneath the TV on top of my Food Network Magazine…I think she’s trying to absorb food info through osmosis.
