Did you miss my adventures from this weekend?!  Here’s some more pictures for you to see the craziness!

Maybe halfway down?  I was sweating like crazy even with the wind blowing crazy in my face, along with all the dirt that was being kicked up into my contacts.  Heh…no wonder I stay so far behind. :)

In part of Trying To Heal from my eating disorder I also have to deal with overcoming social anxiety and trying new things.  I’m a perfectionist and always have been, from eating to writing to performing to grades to running, you name it.  When it comes to new experiences though I have always had to have a push to try them.  My friends have always been really good about this, and making sure that I wasn’t pushed to the point of discomfort.  I can only thank them for helping me along in those times when I was afraid. 

But now it is time for me to take the reins.  I started with last weekend, going to the art galleries in town.  Then I went and ran a race I hadn’t prepared for but was still able to talk to several complete strangers and enjoy the atmosphere and competition of the whole thing.  And this weekend I went and did two different activities I was afraid that truthfully, I couldn’t do correct.  But how would I ever know if I never tried, right?  This is where the perfectionism comes from.  I never try new things because I’m always afraid I won’t be able to do them right or up to par like I think people would want.  But now I’ve come to say to myself, just have some fun!  It seems like such a simple and easy thing…but now it’s finally hitting me.  I did this last year when I was in Florida with Brad and went on some awesome adventures like hiking, snorkeling, pub crawls, dessert crawls, you name it. 

Now is a time for change.  I’m looking at life in a different manner everyday and it keeps getting easier and better.  I have been reading and doing workbooks by Geneen Roth on Emotional and Intuitive Eating which have been helping a lot in the past few weeks (I plan on doing a full review of all three books I’ve read for you asap!).  It’s a whirlwind of emotions but like it said, it’s getting better.  I’m getting better.  I only hope that it keeps getting better from here.  I don’t expect there to just be some sort of “click” and presto, all better!  I know it’s a process and I’m working on it.  I’m working hard because I don’t like feeling miserable about my body and my personality all the time.

Oh yes, and my ANTS? Today?  There were two.  ONLY TWO.  Yesterday there were a few more, along with Friday when I went riding and rafting, but I kept a positive attitude and it kept them down to a minimal amount that I won’t fret over (not that I’m fretting over them, because I don’t see counting them as something that points out the negative, but as something that I need, can and will work on to get better about them). ]]

I was super excited for today as it was my first official day of my 1/2 Marathon Training for the Portland Wine and Country 1/2 Marathon on Labor Day Weekend!  I woke up refreshed from catching up on some sleep yesterday and last night and slammed down a small piece of bread with PB and a bit of unsweetened applesauce.  Then it was out the door for a 7 mile run!

The weather could not have been more perfect, with a thick enough cloud cover to keep the heat out and just enough breeze to keep me cool and not having to battle running against it.  I finished the run in 1:05 at a pace of 9:09 min/mile, which at first I wasn’t thrilled about, but when I think about it, I haven’t run much in the past few weeks and with the hills, I’m a stud!  Ok, at least I like to think I am.

Anyhow, I made sure to stretch really well and ice my knee (it was a bit tight after I finished) and started on my breakfast to refuel!


I love my granola/pb/fruit mixture and after being warm all morning I needed something cool!


I don’t even remember what I did this morning…but I think it included dozing away on the coach watching TV…maybe.  Anyhow, I finally got m butt out the door to get much needed groceries for the week and I’m so looking forward to sharing my meals I have planned!  Though now that I think of it…err, I only have a few days at home this week because I’m going home for the weekend for a few doctors appointments and a family reunion!  Joy!

By the time I finished unpacking I was famished and ready for lunch!  It was simple but filling with a veggie burger on bakery bread with garlic and herb laughing cow with lots of veggies and a fruit salad side including a pluot, strawberries and leftover peach from breakfast (I didn’t include a 1/4 of it because it was huge!).  Sorry I didn’t take a picture, I was in a hurry to eat it! I finished it off with one of my Vegan but Not-So-Vegan Brownies.  Nom nom.

I snacked on a mix of PB Panda Puffs and Dark Chocolate Covered Cranberries for an afternoon snack as I put together a few picture frames with newly purchased pictures from Snapfish.

I watched some Lifetime shows and movies to pass the afternoon away and did laundry to make sure I have clean clothes for field week cause I can’t go around all the time with salt lines on my pants.  Yes, I sweat that much in case you were wondering.  It’s hot out here alright!?

I had big plans for dinner tonight with my newly purchased Portobello Mushrooms from the store this morning and totally made it work! I grilled it up with a mix of seasonings, added some cheese, hummus and the usual toppings for a nice burger for dinner! Probably seems a lot like lunch but seriously so much better and unprocessed (ok, except for the bread; no burger this time though!)


Oh yes, and the obligatory fruit.  Fresh honeydew anyone? Nice and refreshing!

    We can win *any* cookbook? I really want Peter Berley's The Flexitarian Table. I took his cooking class earlier this year and he is SO cool. And quite sexy for a 50something guy. Heh – don't tell Bobby I said that!

    Hmm, there are so many good cookbooks out there. I think I would go with Vegan Planet becuase I have heard it has good recipes that are simple to make.

    the cookbook i'd love to try is eat drink and be vegan. even though i'm not a vegan, or even vegetarian, i hear its a great cookbook for everyone!

    I identify greatly with trying to overcome social anxiety and the fear of unknown situations post-ED. Still working on that one myself. I hear that wine helps greatly (though I'm also determined not to rely on the whole drinking crutch – a little too collegiate and mildly alcoholic, non? :) I've found, though, that despite the anxiety leading up to situations (and regardless of whether I've had wine) I'm always glad I went. Loved the pictures – rafting and all that goodness is close to this (fellow) outdoor girl's heart! Have a good week!

    Regarding the cookbook..I so need a vegan cookbook. I am trying to slyly transition the family but I need to stay creative and interesting to keep them on board with their dinners so I am hoping Veganomican will do it!
