Can you believe we’re already 1/2 way through 2010!? Where has the time gone?!
Oh yeah, performing crazy things out in the Everglades:
and the desert.
Hot weather does crazy things to my head. But when you get to see and take awesome pictures like these, I can’t complain.
It was a shorter day than normal in the field today with about 6 miles of walking but the weather was cooler and there was a breeze (ok wind since I’m covered in dirt and had to take my contacts out I felt like they had mud on them)…too bad my left knee was killing me the entire time! I don’t know what happened overnight but somehow I woke up barely being able to bend my knee…ironic that it happens the day after I pay $25 for a 5k race on Sunday eh? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
So, I’m running low of a few of my grocery staples and decided to finally bite the bullet and eat the granola I have been afraid to eat for the past few months.
Yes, I’ve been afraid to eat my TJ’s Low Fat Almond Granola.
Why have I been scared to eat this? I really can’t tell you (even though it basically has the same calories and nutritional content as Kashi Go Lean Crunch…which I can eat w/o a problem…), but I can tell you this: it’s delicious!!! I’m not a big fan of things with an almond flavor as this doesn’t really have any almond pieces/chunks in it, but it wasn’t too overwhelming and added a nice crunch to my berry/peach and pb mixture without getting soft or too sticky!
We did our work this morning and returned home early enough so I could make my lunch at home. Now, I originally packed a 1/2 a bagel w/ pb and a nectarine but I wasn’t feeling it when I got home; I really wanted some veggies!
I layered up some Multi Grain and Flaxseed Nature’s Own Bread with hummus, tomato, lettuce, and grilled eggplant and onions, a nice white nectarine…
and rounded it out with one of my blueberry and raspberry oatmeal bars. I told you they were pretty…the fruits are so delicious!
And while I did a bit of reading I relished in the goodness of 1/2 a TJ’s Dark Chocolate Bar. So tasty…
Then Honey and I had a photo session. Ok, she had a photo session…
“What you lookin at?”
“I want to smile for you…but I’m so tired…”
“Eyes are so heavy…”
And she’s gone to the world.
“Just Kidding! I’m ready to look cute for you!”
“Do I make you go ‘Ahhhhh’?”
“Well too bad, because it’s attack time!”
“I am here to eat you!!!”
End Honey commentary. Such a dollface…until she keeps you awake all night long and have to guiltily throw her out so you can get at least 5 hours of sleep before work early the next morning. The joys of having a kitten.
This afternoon I headed off to another therapy appointment, which is going very well if I might add, then hit up the farmer’s market afterwards for a few pieces of fruits and veggies, along with a present for my parents when they come up here on Sunday to visit! Yay!
I cleaned up a few things around the apartment before I sat down to my dinner I’ve been waiting for all afternoon.
I started off with a sweet and juicy pluot…my god this is why I love summer. Stone fruits are freak’n amazing. I wish I could freeze time so they’re here all the time for my belly.
Then I had a nice savory Open Faced Grilled Cheese, with Extremely Sharp NZ Cheddar Cheese on bakery bread with fresh tomato and pepper…
And to make it even better? Homemade Sweet Potato Fries seasoned with garlic, paprika, curry powder, cumin and pepper.
With some ketchup. What else would I pair it with?
And now I’m playing with Honey and consulting my twitter friends about whether I should have dessert. I already had an oatmeal bar and 1/2 a bar of chocolate so part of me is saying no…that’s enough sweets for today. I know I did hiking for work but I don’t want to use exercise as an excuse to eat something…and then there is the concept of whether I’m hungry or just want to eat it..decisions decisions.
While I ponder over that thought, I wanted to let you all know that the people from ATTUNE are generous enough to contribute to my 2 year Blogger Anniversary Giveaway! The winner will also receive some coupons to pick some bars of their choice at their local grocer! How exciting no?!
Of course how did I score that? They were kind enough to send me a few bars a while back to review for the blog and I’m finally getting around to it! Sorry for being a slacker Attune!
Dark Chocolate: This was the first bar I tried. I was surprised how good it was (not that I thought it was going to be bad or anything, I’m just picky about my dark chocolate!) I said previous, “I’m glad it wasn’t super sweet like some other dark chocolates other than the ones I really like to eat and def helped settle my chocolate craving!” I actually paired it up with a handful of nuts and dried fruit to balance eating the straight chocolate out!
Coffee Bean Dark Chocolate: This was the second bar I tried, which definitely did not disappoint! As I said when I had it, “Wow! I’m normally not a fan of coffee flavored chocolates, especially ones that had coffee beans in them, but this one wasn’t too bad! There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of coffee beans, but then not too little and actually provided a nice crunch to the bar (though I was trying hard to just let it melt, but that meant eating the coffee beans alone, which wasn’t what I wanted).”
Raspberry Dark Chocolate: The last bar of the bunch, and wow! I’m normally not a fan of fruits and chocolate, but this one was great! The berry flavor didn’t overwhelm the chocolate and helped balance out the chocolate sweetness with it’s natural sweetness!
If you want to check out their other bars you can see them all on their website; they have a bunch to pick from! I’ll have to check out my grocery store and see if I can find some of their mint chocolate and chocolate crisp ones, along with their pb & chocolate granola bar! Definitely something my tastebuds would love!
